Reading a book or listenig to music as the teacher comes is a much better calming technique! I love your idea to spell words with the hand staff. I've done activities where we spell words with letter names of notes but never on the hand staff like that! Thanks so much for sharing and for your kind words! :)Elizabeth Caldwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042281726294433770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819722186267743707.post-20257483884285684842015-11-12T20:26:41.109-05:002015-11-12T20:26:41.109-05:00I use the SQUILT time with students showing me the...I use the SQUILT time with students showing me their favorite stretch or yoga pose. SUCH CONCENTRATION! 2. I like to use my hand staff and have them practice names of lines and spaces. (or if they are younger--they use their WHISPER voice to tell me line or space OR they whisper: 1st line, 3rd space. 3. I also spell 'words' using note letter names--I point to a sequence of 'notes' on my hand staff. They have to 'remember' in their heads what the notes are and come up with the word. 4. If we are trying to memorize a song for a performance--we very quietly sing the song--on a given signal--they 'put it in their heads' and think the words--on another signal--they sing again. 5. OR I will sing the first phrase of the song--and they will sing the next, etc. If they are JUST starting the song--I will sing it and leave out a word for them to fill in. 6. We will also do finger-clap rhythm echoes. 7. I also like to do 'four beats after' using different body percussion levels. 7. If the kids are in 2 lines--we practice singing a song with one line and the other line sings an ostinato. OR keep the steady beat of a song while the other finger-claps the rhythm OR sing a song in a round....etc. There are a lot of '2-part' type things you can do with this. Can you tell that I have had to WAIT for a LOOOONG time MANY times for teachers to come and pick up the students. MANY times I would have TWO classes to keep 'entertained' in an EDUCATIONAL way! :>) LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15424117031613821869noreply@blogger.com
