I make it very clear that this full-class system is for the full class. If 1 or 2 individuals are making poor choices I will handle that with them, not punish the entire class. HOWEVER if they allow themselves to be pulled off-track by 1 or 2 people then that will affect the entire class. I never allow students to start blaming 1 or 2 people for losing or earning letters. You can read about my behavior management systems, including my individual incentives and consequences, by searching "behavior management" or going to this post: https://caldwellorganizedchaos.blogspot.com/2016/05/teacher-tuesday-behavior-management.htmlElizabeth Caldwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042281726294433770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819722186267743707.post-1634379077964807192018-08-14T23:14:27.241-04:002018-08-14T23:14:27.241-04:00Do you do anything for individual children? Older students can wait longer, and if the reward is small and not too disruptive to your regular class time you can do it more frequently. If you haven't yet, you might want to read through all of my other behavior management posts- some of my strategies have changed and I go into more detail on the types of rewards I give etc: https://caldwellorganizedchaos.blogspot.com/2016/05/teacher-tuesday-behavior-management.htmlElizabeth Caldwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042281726294433770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4819722186267743707.post-54661458635182134082017-07-12T14:51:15.045-04:002017-07-12T14:51:15.045-04:00How many stickers do you usually give before a rew...How many stickers do you usually give before a reward? Sounds like you went through a similar progression to mine. Thanks for sharing! Whe...I also used the class sticker for many years. When they earned 15 stickers they got a class in which they got to choose their favorite music activities/games. A couple of years ago I switched to the "MUSIC" system. I have magnetic letters on a white board that spell "music." If they get chatty the "m" gets turned over into a "W" for a warning. If they continue they begin loosing letters. Each letter represents a point. They can earn extra points by performing well. At the end of class I add up all the points and record them. At the end of the month I add up each class's points and the class with the most points is the music class of the month. I make a big note out of bulletin board paper for each class. The first week of school every student signs their class note and then I laminate them. When they are the music class of the month, they get their big note hung outside their classroom door. At the end of the year I add up all the points for the year and the class with the most get a special ice cream treat from me. I did see another art teacher who used "ARTIST" so they had more letters, if you need an idea for your colleagues :) Being unified, especially with behavior management, makes such a huge difference!
